Tutors

Background of our Tutors

Our Tutors are well-qualified and professional.  They hold a teaching credential and have teaching and/or tutoring experience within an elementary school (many within the ABC Unified School District) or a private tutoring academy.

The Role of our Tutors

Our tutors are dedicated to academic excellence and are committed to maintaining a high standard of educational support to students in the program.  They achieve this by applying their experiences and knowledge of teaching methods to individual students.  In addition, they are responsible for collaborating with and advising their assistants (TAs) appropriately to ensure that they are accomplishing their goals.  They are cognizant of parental expectations of what needs to be accomplished, and also of areas identified by the students' teachers that require attention.  Further, our tutors are familiar with the Californian Content Standards and are required to work towards meeting these standards, if not exceeding them.

Tutor Training & Continuous Development

Our Tutors undergo an extensive orientation upon joining Ready Study Go! which includes information about our educational materials, curricula and standards.

Tutors working in the Language Arts Program receive training through Great Source, a division of Houghton Mifflin, the publisher of our Language Arts materials.  The student workbooks contain excerpts from popular children's books that have been selected by some of the master teachers in the United States.  Our Tutors utilize the Teacher’s Guides by conducting mini-lessons so to introduce new and challenging concepts to students in a small group.

Tutors working in the Math Program are familiar with the Houghton Mifflin Mathematics text books used at local schools.  They utilize the Teacher’s Editions and are well-versed with accompanying materials to be able to provide a strong curriculum for each student based on their individual needs.

Tutors working in the Homework Assistance program are knowledgeable about the type of homework assignments required at each grade level and what is expected of students at each of the different grades.  Our tutors often have direct contact with teachers at the school through substitute teaching and via active involvement in school activities.

Tutors keep abreast of what subject areas are being taught at schools within the District, so as to ensure that students are being exposed to similar types of problems to what is being covered at local schools.
