Friday READING Program

Click Programs Offered for further information.

This program is offered on Fridays from 3-4:30pm. Students will read high-interest children's literature books of varying genre & authors.  They will learn to decode difficult words as they read aloud, and to give a tellback on what they read at appropriate intervals.  Students will be encouraged to discuss key story elements such as main event/idea, characters and character feelings, problems and resolutions encountered, and setting.  Reading out loud will develop confidence in students' reading fluency, and discussing what they read, will strengthen students' oral comprehension skills while developing a passion for reading.  On occasions, students will be encouraged to participate in Reader’s Theatre, where they will learn an assigned part of a script and present it in the form of a play in front of an audience.  In order for students to succeed in this program, it is essential that they attend every Friday.
